Keeping the TKE Bonds Strong, 40 Years after Graduation!

Thank you to Rob Zimmerman '69 for sending us this recap of a fall 2009 reunion for the classes of '67-'71.

He writes "Every 5 years since 1989 we (the class of '69) have organized a reunion gathering.  We choose an away game weekend so that we can accomplish our event without the complications of home game crowds. We also invite fraters from the neighboring years. This has really enhanced the event.  This year, fraters  from '67 - '71 participated.

We held our reunion over the Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 weekend at State College.  The event began on Friday afternoon with golf, followed Friday evening by casual dining and drinks at Champs Sports Bar. Throughout the evening fraters arrived to a wonderful welcome.  Many hadn't seen one another in years.

Late Saturday morning we met at the house to interact with the actives and to see the house.  We were very impressed with the guys and the improved condition of the house. Tom Becker '69 briefly discussed the House Improvement Capital Campaign. Later that afternoon, the group socialized at the Super 8 lounge and watched the televised football game, (we won!!).

Saturday evening we had a splendid dinner at the Nittany Lion Inn.  During desert we were entertained by a wonderful dvd of photos and teke songs compiled by Bob Cinibulk '69.  A truly wonderful production although, no clips of the infamous Teke Flames were available.  Jack Walmer '69 made a moving tribute to the late Denny Beck '68, our Hegemon.  Highlight of the event was an award honoring Jeff Bower '69 for his tireless efforts on behalf of the house.  After dinner some of us met at the NLI lounge where stories of pledging, socials, and spring week skits were told like they happened yesterday.  Someone thought they saw 'The Man", Al Harris walk through the lounge, "Tunk."

Sunday morning, some of the group met for breakfast and farewells.  It was a splendid event and as they say, "a good time was had by all."  Plans were started for meeting in 2014.

In this photo (L to R):  Bill Say, Frederick Villforth, Ned Bulk, Ron Forys, Ed Say, Mitch Work, active 1, Noble Anderson, Active 2, Jeff Bower, Active 3, Tom Becker, Bob Zimmerman, Jack Walmer, Rick Bentz, Bob Cinibulk.  Absent from photo, Bruce Hershock, John Bradley.

Looking to plan a similar reunion for your class? Rob's insider tip is to use The Nittany Lion Inn and The Super 8 (Best Western). "They offered us a discount on rooms and Super 8 provides a complementary  'hospitality suite' with TV for watching the game.  They were very terrific."

Get started planning your era reunion by reaching out to alumni from your class. You can find their contact info in the online directory. Once you have your plans, send them to us at content@affinityconnection.com and we'll gladly help publicize the event on our site.
